Nairaland Explore 2: How to register, create new thread/posts and post comments on Nairaland

This is the second segment of Nairaland Explore; an avenue for you to become accustom to Nigeria number one online forum and also be a partaker in this wonderful and massive community, most importantly the benefits you can also derive on the process.

The first Nairaland Explore topic dealt with the introductory part to Nairaland and also the different segments of the forum.

But today, as you can clearly see from the topic we are delving into how to register, how to create a new thread or post as it is popularly called and how to comment on Nairaland. As posting of threads and commenting are the major activities that members of the forum often engage in every now and then.

Without wasting time, let’s hit the nail on its head; to register on Nairaland,

= =>Visit Nairaland and locate the join Nairaland link at the top side of the homepage.

= =>Click on it, then you will be asked to key in your e-mail first for address verification.

= =>Put in the email address as requested and click submit and a link will be sent to the email you provided. Log into the e-mail account and click the link sent, to enable you complete your registration.

= =>After you have clicked the link in your mail inbox, you can then choose a unique username and password and finally click join Nairaland when you have done that and you will be through with the registration.

= => you can now log into your Nairaland account with your username and password. In your dashboard you can decide to set up your profile to fix in additional information about yourself by clicking on Edit Profile link.

At this point, you are now eligible to comment on people’s posts and will take you some few days and little participation to be eligible to start creating your own thread on the forum.

When you are ripe in the few coming days to start creating threads, follow the simple steps below to learn how to do that;

= =>From any of Nairaland three major and generic groups or categories and with each of their sub-categories, you can scan or select the sub-category that will best fit the content of the thread that you want to create. For example, if you want to create anything pertaining to football, you should be able to know that the best sub-category for it is the sport sub-category which can be found under the Entertainment major category. At this point, for you to start creating your thread on this sport sub-category, it is for you to click on it.

= =>When you do that, it will take you to the new topics created by other members in that sport sub-category.

= =>Now, by the side of the numbered pages of the sport page, you will see the Create New Topic link. Click on it to take you to editor window page where you will input the topic of your post in the subject line, and then the body of your post in the message editor window.

It is important to note that you should read to observe the posting rules that are always presented to you at the top of the editor’s window before going ahead with composing your post.

= =>After you are done with writing your posts and filling the topic on the subject line, you can then hit the submit tab to publish them and your post will be taken to the top of the sport page, indicating that it was newly created.

At this point, other members can view and comment on the post while guests can only view them. That is all with posting of new thread.

Then finally for posting comments on existing posts, follow the steps below;

= =>When you visit any section of Nairalad, be it the front page or any major category or sub-category and you find any topic interesting and want to comment on the post, what you should do is to scroll down close to the bottom of the page and you will see the Reply link.

= =>Click on the link and it will take you to the editors window page where you can enter your comments and after which you should click the submit tab to publish your comment.

= =>Alternatively, you might want to comment by quoting other commenters. You will always find the Quote in bracket link underneath each commenter’s posts. So you can just click on the Quote link to do so where you will also be taken to editor’s window page with the quoted comments by the commenter that you want to post under. After the closing quote in square bracket in the edit window, type your own comment and click publish and that is all.

Note that whenever you happen to get to the text edit window either as original poster or commenter, you can always decide to attach pictures and/or other files, and this feature is located under the editor window.
