Whatsapp to offer free whatsapp to whatsapp voice calls starting April

Yesterday marked the beginning of the so much awaited Mobile World Congress event currently on-going in Barcelona Spain. 

We have been following and monitoring all through, and we must tell you that indeed a lot has already happened and more is to happen before the final day of the event.

Coming after the on-going deal on the acquisition of Whatsapp Inc by social media giant Facebook for a whopping $19billion, Whatsapp has on Monday, on the Mobile World Congress announced its plan to introduce free whatsapp voice to voice service amongst its teaming members come April this year.

It was followed by a speech from Whatsapp co-founder and the CEO of the famous mobile messaging app Jan Koum still in the on-going Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, he said that voice service will be focused on simplicity just as its text based services that it has been offering and that his plan to grow whatsapp into over a billion membership people is still on course.

He announced that the voice service will first release a version for App Inc iphone and Google Inc Android platform which will be followed by Microsoft window phones as well as some Blackberry phones and Nokia. 

He continued by saying that the voice service will be well optimised allowing for the least amount of bandwidth to be used since whatsapp really want to people to start communicating.

He also reiterated by stressing out the fact that whatsapp will remain autonomous and unchanged even after its complete acquisition by Facebook. 

He went ahead to cite example with Intagram; that even after Facebook acquisition of the online photo editing and uploading media, that nothing else changed.

In Koum’s word “Whatsapp was likely valuable to Facebook because they both want the world connected”. 

Towards the ending part of his speech, he acknowledges that whatsapp needs to know a little more about its users details such as user name.

And I must say this that if Whatsapp finally actualizes what you have just read, then no doubt that its target of getting over a billion memberships will be achieved at the shortest time possible and people will liken the app to that of Skype and might even prefer it to skype because of the low bandwidth as purported that it will be connecting with. And also, Blackberry messenger users will be highly forced to migrate.
