The increasing relevancy of whatsapp mobile messaging app

Whatsapp as we all know has become one of the most famous and favourite mobile instant messaging app especially in recent times, founded and developed in 2009 by an American Brian Acton and Ukrainian Jan Koum who were both Yahoo veterans.

While other famous mobile instant messaging apps are busy losing relevance in one form or the other, whatsapp is busy doing the contrary.

2go was one of those mobile messaging apps that came out earlier and toppled others before it gradually started declining in the number of people making use of it.

Though people still make use of it presently, but I can categorically tell you that it is no longer like before when the usage of 2go was viral and the decline in the number of people using it these days can easily be felt and noticed.

Blackberry instant messenger popularly known as BBM followed suit then, and gradually toppled others, where you have only those with the blackberry devices allowed to network among themselves with the BBM.

With BBM rocking, the drive for owning a blackberry device increased amongst the youth and other categories of people in different parts of the world.

But just as the saying goes that nothing in this world will last forever, BBM became more and more popular, and as many networked with their BBM, there came up whatsapp which eventually turned out to become strong BBM competitor.

With both BBM and whatsapp users always at loggerheads in the bid to claim superiority between the two mobile instant messaging apps, little wonder will you find youths at one point or the other always engaging themselves in argument pertaining BBM and whatsapp on the one they consider as a better messaging apps.

No doubt that BBM and whatsapp both have their various shortcomings, just the way some will tell you that BBM is better because it has more features than whatsapp and that BBM users engage in better and more meaningful networking amongst themselves, the whatsapp lovers will tell you that whatsapp beats BBM hands down with their cross platform apps that enables them to have wider network coverage and interactions with  their friends and their partners.

Sometimes one get to see those arguments goes on and on unabated with either party refusing to give in defence of their favourite messaging apps.

Whatever the case may be, recently , with blackberry quickly loosing relevance in the phone markets and industries as of today, one will no longer be left with a single doubt, that blackberry most treasured apps i.e. the BBM will also be greatly affected, and thereby allowing its greatest rivalry messaging apps to topple, in this case we are referring to  whatsapp.

More so with whatsapp currently boasting of having more than 300 million users worldwide, BBM recorded just about 60 million users worldwide. It is now becoming even more obvious that with such statistics and with blackberry current lagging nature, people will now embrace whatsapp more for now than BBM.

Again, no doubt that such difference in the number of users between the two apps was as a result of whatsapp being a cross platform apps, whereas BBM is mainly for only blackberry owners.

We are currently aware of how blackberry is still kicking and trying to do everything possible within their reach to remain relevant. Just recently, blackberry took a bolder step by cross carpeting their BBM apps to higher versions of android and i-phones.

While some have attributed this recent blackberry gesture to android and i-phones as a means of garnering more members to taste their juicy BBM and keep them alive in the chase of both product relevancy and instant messaging dominance, but blackberry limited, the makers of blackberry phones and the owners of BBM might on their own be having a secret agenda on such gesture, but only time will surely tell how well everything will turn out to be.

Finally, with blackberry having paved way for whatsapp to remain as king for now, and just as I have said, that nothing last forever, if by anyway whatsapp on its own fails to capitalize and even gain better strongholds, anything can still happen, even if not the awakening of BBM, other messaging apps or existing ones might rear up their head and topple.
